In September I will turn 40 and my mid life crisis demands that I do something crazy in the quest for eternal youth. So I’ve purchased a shiny brand new vehicle and plan to skip work for a few days in order to take it for a spin to Paris for a rendezvous with a younger woman which will leave me aching all over.
But I’m a modern man… So the shiny brand new vehicle is a bike. And the spin down to Paris is 300km of heavy duty cycling over 3 days of early starts. And the younger woman? Well Jude is not 40 for a couple of years yet and promises to meet me at the Eiffel Tower.
In the process I am raising money for the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust. My friend Miriam was killed six years ago in the London bombings of 7/7/05. In the aftermath some of us set up the Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust to raise money for a children’s eye care hospital in India. In May 2008 the Miriam Hyman Children’s Eye Care Centre was established in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India. This is a living memorial; a place of hope, healing and rehabilitation for children who need eye care services, irrespective of the ability to pay. The MHMT continues to support the expansion of the Centre and is currently looking to raise funds for a Specular Microscope.
So make mine a midlife crisis worth a difference, and give generously.
