My story
The Margaret Kerr Unit will be a purpose built in patient specialist palliative care unit at the Borders General Hospital. It will have 8 en- suite single bedrooms, each with their own view of the beautiful Borders countryside, as well as overnight stay facilities for family members, a therapy rooms, day lounges and a landscaped garden and courtyard spaces. The aim is to create a comfortable, welcoming and peaceful building for everyone.Construction of the unit started in April 2012 and is on course to achieve the predicted 40 week build programme.
We are capturing the hearts of the people of the Borders with our fundraising appeal, the support for which is truly amazing.
We still have a long way to go though to raise 'the final million' pounds needed to make this much needed facility a reality for the people of the Borders.
Thank you for your donation, and for making the difference.
My updates 2
April 17th 2012: We were delighted to show the Director of The Robertson Trust and three of the Trustees including the Chair around the construction site today. We are very grateful to The Robertson Trust for their generous donation to the project.
April 3rd 2012: The 'ground breaking ceremony' to mark the official construction start date of The Margaret Kerr Unit took place today in weather conditions that were far from ideal! However the blizzard did not dampen spirits and everyone is delighted to see the build start.
