My story

 

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We are taking part in a cycle challenge to raise funds for the Macmillan Caring Locally charity based at Christchurch Hospital, which provides specialist cancer care and support for cancer and other terminally ill patients and their carers in the Christchurch and Bournemouth area of Dorset.

The charity is very close to our hearts, as Maria’s Mum, who has been bravely battling with cancer for a number of years, attends the Macmillan Unit Day Centre at the hospital regularly and is very well looked after by them.

The challenge will take place in December in Northern India: up to 120 kilometres a day for 6 consecutive days in hot, humid & dusty conditions on pot-holed poorly maintained roads in some of the more remote areas of the country. We’re not looking forward to the saddle-sores!

In case you are thinking ‘Why should I pay for them to go travelling round India?’, let us reassure you that we are covering all the costs of the challenge ourselves, so every penny you donate will go directly to this relatively small local charity. Anything you can donate would be very gratefully received.

Macmillan Caring Locally supports a Specialist Palliative Care unit at Christchurch Hospital, Dorset. It owns & operates The Grove, a hotel in Bournemouth for Cancer patients, and supports a range of services for Cancer diagnosis and treatment at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital & Poole Hospital.
