What am I doing?
On Friday 4 December I will attempt to complete the Everest . The marathon is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the highest marathon in the world. The start line is at over 5200m close to Everest Base Camp in . But before even starting, competitors have completed a 16 day trek up the . The weather can vary from -20C to +20C and the oxygen levels are less than 50% of those at sea level.
The race is held every two years and I was offered a place after completing this years’ Mont Blanc Marathon (picture above left).
Why?
Apart from having a once in a lifetime experience I will be raising money for two important charities; The "Everest Fund". Having experienced with my own family the great work of hospice charities I have spent the last eight months volunteering for Thames HospiceCare in . The funds raised will help improve the quality of life for those with terminal illnesses.
The Everest Fund
Funds raised provide help to promote health and education in rural . is amongst the five poorest countries in the world, 49% of people live below the poverty line many areas lack clean water, elementary education and medical facilities so any amount raised for this charity will make a real difference.
