An eventful day in London on 25th April. Huge downpour of rain just before the start, way too many runners in not enough space for the first 15 miles, and the danger of the discarded water bottles everywhere.
For me, I started the run very warily, as I had injured my knee two weeks ago during training, and was expecting that I would have to walk at least some of the way. My knee gave way after 5 miles and I thought that I would have to stop soon afterwards and start walking. I gritted my teeth and spent the next 21 miles in pain, but kept pushing myself to get as far as I could before starting to walk. In the end I managed to run the whole way round, and finished in just under 4 hours and 7 minutes.
The pain killers did a great job on Sunday night, and apart from a couple of minor muscle aches, the only thing that really hurts today is the knee, and the areas that got very chaffed.
Anyway, the run is over and I want to thank everyone for the fabulous support and all your valuable sponsorship. I met with the Vision team at the end of the run and hope that all the efforts help them to keep up their excellent work.
So thank you all again.
Those people who know me are aware that I am blind in one eye, yet I count myself lucky as I am able to live normally, without the need of special care and attention.
The Vision Charity provides valuable funding and support to those not as privileged as myself, namely Children who are Blind, Visually Impaired and Dyslexic.
So at the ripe old age of 45, I have decided to put my weary bones and muscles through the ordeal of the London Marathon 2010, and hope that you will make this worth while by helping to give some children at least part of the quality of life that most of us take for granted every day.
