'International Childcare Trust is a small dynamic UK registered charity working, in direct partnership with local organisations in Africa and Asia that protect children's rights; such as their right to education and to a healthy, happy childhood.
ICT currently works in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and India with key Southern partner NGOs who take an integrated approach to child development combining the delivery of practical assistance with capacity building and advocacy initiatives. Practical assistance includes supporting direct benefits to disadvantaged children, their families and communities, e.g. quality education, improved healthcare, income generation schemes, vocational training, rehabilitation and reintegration of children. We always enhance the capacity of our partner organisations through information sharing and training opportunities and helps promote our partners' projects through raising their international profile, offering expert advice and helping to raise much needed funds.
ICT achieves these objectives by designing, implementing and managing projects in conjunction with local people according to their needs and within the culture of the country of operation. Projects are managed and staffed by local people.
OUR WORK DEPENDS UPON THE FUNDS THAT WE RAISE!
Faraja Trust Fund - Tanzania
'Faraja' means 'to comfort' in Kiswahili and the Centre For Children Living With HIV/AIDS is a place where children and young people can come for information, support and advice.
Norbart, a 16 year old boy, benefited from the support at Faraja. At age 11 he discovered he was infected with HIV, which was not a surprise because he had lost both of his parents to the virus in 1999 and he knew that there was a risk that it might have been passed on to him during childbirth. He was moved to his uncle's house with his brother and sister, where he was abused and stigmatised. He ran away from this abusive home and after a short stay at the hospital, where treatments seemed to be having little success, Norbart was taken to the Faraja Centre.
Norbart was given six months of intensive treatment, including good healthy food, nutritional supplements and medicine, which enabled him to gain weight and be well enough to attend school regularly. He started to enjoy school, and proved to be a very intelligent, hard working boy.
In 2007, he was chosen among the top 15 pupils to join secondary education. He has also joined different children's clubs such as football, basketball and story writing. Norbart is very strong, full of ambitions and is living positively. Without the generosity of supporters like you, we would not be able to change the lives of children like Norbart. The money raised from Cycle Tanzania will help us to give even more children the support they need. Thank you.
