1 in 125 babies are born with CHD. CHSF supports Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, it's patients and their families. We fund lifesaving equipment, parent accommodation, staff training, and a family support service. 100% donor-funded, we can only do this with your help. Empowered lives, because of you.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Tom was born on 21st June this year with a defect valve in his heart (valvuloplasty), and needed a heart operation at 3 days old. This was carried out at the Leeds Children's Heart Surgery Unit (which is under threat of closure). The staff and consultants there were fantastic at an exteremely difficult time, and do an amazing job - the unit does though rely heavily on fundraising support. The unit has also done a fantastic job in supporting David's friends Sand and Rob with their daughter Ava.

To help support this, David Wilford and I are attempting to complete the Coast to Coast walk in a back-breaking nine days (as opposed to the usual 14). This is with the added challenge that we've done no training and have both recently reached the grand old age of 40.

The trek is from St Bees on the west coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood's Bay on the east coast of the North York Moors. This is a c200 mile trek and it will almost certainly rain for those nine days! We're paying for the costs (mainly YHA's), so all donation will pass in full to the charity.

Any sponsorship you are able to give is greatly appreciated, and will make a huge difference to children passing through the unit in the future - thank you for your donation.
