Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page
I am raising money for the Ed Evans Foundation;
A registered charity my friend Ed Evans set up during his long fight
against brain cancer. I met Ed when I joined the Royal Navy back in
2001. We remained good friends long after we passed out of HMS Raleigh
and seperated to continue our own branch training. Ed continued to make
regular visits to my hometown of Lincoln and in doing so made some good
friends in the process.
He continued his training as a Navy
clearance diver in Portsmouth but was unfortunately diagnosed with a
brain tumour after suffering from severe headaches. Although his career
in the Navy was over, this did not deter Ed from living his life to the
full. He was full of resolve and determination and set up a Foundation
in support of Cancer Research Wales, specifically brain tumour
research after the amazing help and support he received during his
treatment. I saw first hand the fantastic work this foundation was
achieving when I attended the first official fundraising ball in
Cardiff in 2006, since which the foundation has raised over £85,000 for
Cancer Research. I made a promise to Ed that if I could ever find the
time to raise money for charity, I would do it for his. Unfortunately
Ed lost his battle with this disease in October 2007.
After the news of his death, me and my good friend Edward Haugland decided we would aim at raising some money for the foundation in memory of Ed. It has taken us 2 years but we've now managed to get together and sort something out. We are both avid hikers and love the outdoors and have decided to tackle one of Britains most challenging long distance walks; The Pennine Way. The trail covers 268 miles from Edale in Derbyshire to Kirk Yetholm on the Scottish border and involves some serious mileage over arduous terrain. The aim is to complete the trek in 16 stages over as many days between 26th Sept - 11th Oct 2009. We want to raise as much money as we can for this worth while cause but have set ourselves an achievable target of £1000 to start.
