My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'll be 'Yomping' 50 miles from Brighton to the RM Museum at Portsmouth with 50lbs of kit alongside other former 'Bootnecks' in order to raise money to help injured Marines who have given more than most people could imagine.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

The Help Our Wounded Royal Marines 50 / 50 Yomp will take place on Saturday 29th to Sunday 30th September 2012. Leaving Palace Pier Brighton at 8am on the Saturday Yomping to Chichester to a camp site for the night, then leaving am on the Sunday, ending at the Royal Marines Museum at Eastney Barracks in Portsmouth - 50 miles with 50lbs of kit.

HELP OUR WOUNDED is helping to raise funds for The Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund Registered No.1134205HOW was formed on the 4th March 2010 because of the number of seriously injured Royal Marines returning from operational tours in Afghanistan Iraq and other areas of armed conflict. HELP OUR WOUNDED is a community based effort seeking to help the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund meet it's target of raising £6M by the 350th anniversary of the Corps in October 2014. A Campaign Board has been established to coordinate the Corps Family effort working towards this testing target and HELP OUR WOUNDED is represented on that board.

Overview:

The beneficiaries of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund (RMCTF), are serving and retired Royal Marines and their dependants and it strives to support three main areas of activity.

1. The Recovery Pathway - helping the wounded and injured make as complete a recovery as possible and assisting those having to leave the service to transition successfully into civilian life.

2. The Quality of Life Pathway - ensuring that the quality of life of those facing multiple tours in high threat environments is as good as possible by providing funding for decompression activities (such as expeditions, adventure training and sport), improved amenities, welcome home events and memorials.

3. The Through Life Pathway - supporting those who have servered their formal links with the service and have fallen on hard times; the major service charities believe that they have a tsunami of need building up in about 10 years time and demand is already increasing.
Sadly, but importantly, the RMCTF also provides immediate death grants to the next of kin of those who die while serving.

Because of our name, HELP OUR WOUNDED's first role is to support the wounded and their families in any way we can with fundraising and donating money from our events to the RMCTF. This also includes helping to fund a grant to the next of kin of those who die in service within 48 hours of the event. We also support the Through Life Pathway continuing the same level of support and care to former Corps members once they break their former links to the Corps, particularly at a time when the first of our most seriously injured begin their return to civilian life.

One more sleep and we are off on our adventure, meet up with old muckers and spread the word 'that we do have wounded Royal Marines that need help adjusting to their disabilies from life changing injuries'. I will not keep going on, if you can spare some funds I thank you XXX..
