Story
<div>"The Brain Tumour Research Fund" is a research-based charity under the University of Glasgow's charity No of SC004401, but the Beatson WOSCC Neurology Oncology Dept drive the research that is undertaken.</div>
<div>I was diagnosed with a Type 4 Glioblastoma (which is the most aggressive form of brain tumour) in December 2010 where I underwent emergency surgery, followed by both Radiotherapy & Chemotherapy during 2011. Although my tumour is the most aggresssive & serious of its type, my prognosis is good, for now. The doctors cant cure my cancer, but can hopefully maintain it for a long time.</div>
<div>With both better funding and awareness hopefully a cure for this illness could be found in the near future.</div>
<div>Over the next year or so, I plan to participate in both a 10k & a 1/2 marathon, I hope to climb Ben Lomond & if I'm up to it, hold a sponsored leg wax. I have also organised a "Wear a Hat to Work" day, a charity Clay Pigeon Shoot and look to organise a "Grey Tie" Ball later in the year, with the hope of this becoming an annual event as well as selling wristbands & ribbons.</div>
<div>Brain Tumour Research is approx 12 years behind other types of cancer research.</div>
<div>Brain Tumours are the biggest killer of people In the UK under the age of 40 than any other cancer.</div>
<div>16000 people each year in the UK are diagnosed with a Brain Tumour.</div>
<div>Only 14% of those diagnosed with a Brain Tumour survive beyond 5 years (compared with 50% of all other cancers)</div>
<div>25% of other cancers spread to the brain & every year there is a 4% increase in incidence</div>
<div>These are only a few of the facts that surround this illness, its not a cancer caused by smoking, drinking or being over weight. Its just a case of being "unlucky" and the thing is it could happen to anyone at any time!</div>
<div>Thank you for taking the time to look at my JustGiving page & thanks in advance for your donation.</div>
