My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am in need of some help please!!!

As you may or may not be aware my wife (Jemma) was badly burnt after an accident at home in May of 2008. Jemma had over 20% of her body burned and required immediate hospital treatment.

Thanks to the quick thinking of the London Ambulance service she was rushed to Chelsea & Westminster hospitals specialist burns unit.

She spent 30 long days under the AMAZING care and attention of the nurses and doctors within the burns unit. This happened whilst our son William was just 8 weeks old, which made things that little bit harder as babies were not allowed on the ward and Jemma was not allowed out of the ward for too long because of infections to the open wounds.

During the time that Jemma spent within the burns unit we both saw some absolutely horrendous sights and it made us both realise just how much burns can affect the lives of the victim and also their friends and family.

It was after Jemma’s experience that we decided to try and do what we could to assist others that had been through similar burns experiences.

We are currently fundraising for a charity called RAFT (http://www.raft.ac.uk/). RAFT stands for the Restoration of Appearance and Function Trust. They are an independent registered charity carrying out pioneering research into practical and affordable ways to save and repair skin.

Some of Jemma’s family have already completed fundraising for RAFT, her cousins Billy completed the London marathon and Lucy completed the Brighton half marathon in 2011 and did an amazing job of raising funds for an amazing charity.

Our next fundraiser is a SkyDive on 22 April 2012.  I have managed to twist the arms of Jemma’s cousin Lucy (Carter) and a friend Dan (Blackwell) into joining me for the first fundraising event of 2012. If you could sponsor us any amount possible it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Matt
