Dear family and friends

as many of you know Stefan and I went to Ethiopia in November. When we where in Addis Ababa we had the opportunity to visit Old Sarum school, a pre-school financed and managed by charity orginisation TESFA..

TESFA means 'hope' in Amharic. TESFA funds schools, in rural and urban areas of East Africa where there is no early-years or primary education available. With offering disadvantaged children robust education early on there is hope for them for a better life, not just for them but also for their families, their community and ultimately the county.

TESFA has already built 7 schools, serving over 1000 children. Continuous financial support is required to keep these schools open, and to build many more schools. Please help. You can do so either by sponsoring a school child for one year, or by making a general donation.

To sponsor a school child it is best to do it directly via TESFA's website: http://www.tesfa.org/store?item=1281033192. Thank you, Sabine, for signing up to sponsor a child just as Stefan and I are doing with little Yohannes at Hope Academy!

I set up this website to raise a substantial amount of money for the construction of a new school in Kambata. The ultimate goal is to build, furnish, supply and staff a six-classroom school and library for 250 primary students in the Kambata-Tambaro region. This school will likely be a kindergarten combined with nonformal primary school that serves a broad spectrum of children with primary level literacy and numeracy.  Many of the children have farming duties, depending on the season. The nonformal paradigm allows for training up local youth to perform as teachers, thereby building local capacity.

The cost for building the school and operating it for one year is $35,000 which is about £22,500 or Euro 26,500. My target is to raise £6,000. To help with achieving this ambitious target, 30 of my colleagues and I will participate in a 2-day 170 mile fundraising cycle challenge this May. We will ride our bikes from England's West coast to the East coast. Please sponsor us! More details to follow soon.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
