My story

LAM (lymphangioleiomyomatosis) is an extremely rare, degenerative lung condition. It occurs in (mostly) women of child-bearing age. The symptoms include spontaneous pneumothoraxes (collapsed lungs), and go on to manifest in similar ways as those presenting in Emphysema. There is no known reason why it should happen to some and not to others, and as such, no cure has yet been identified. There are concerns among doctors that the prevalence of this condition may be wider spread than initially thought due to lack of awareness and misdiagnosis - many sufferers are thought to have COPD or Emphysema. It is vital that research continues into cause, prevention and cure, which is why I have set up this page in my Mum's memory. Those with LAM are not expected to live beyond 5 - 15 years after diagnosis. With determination, courage, strength and support from my wonderful Dad, my Mum stretched the limits as far as she could. Rather than flowers, we would ask friends and families to please donate their hard-earned money to this charity - LAM action.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

LAM Action

Charity Registration No. 1096637

Lymphangioleiomyomatosis or LAM is a rare lung disease that only occurs in women. It affects just over one woman in a million and LAM Action is aware of 120 women in the United Kingdom who have LAM. The purpose of LAM Action is twofold. Firstly, it is a self-help group to provide support and encouragement for patients with LAM. The second purpose of LAM Action is to raise money for research as it is often difficult to obtain money for research into a rare disease.
