On 19 June I am running the UK’s hardest half marathon; ‘The Trionium Midsummer Munro’. This is mostly on rough tracks and starts with a steep, super-direct ascent of Box Hill, to be greeted by a Scottish piper in full regalia at the top of the first hill.
One makes 10 separate ascents of different parts of the hill; the total ascent & descent over 3000 feet.
I’m running 10 miles on flat at 1 hour; 10 miles xc at 1 hr 15 and other half marathons at 1.5 hours, so I’m aiming for 2 hours on this one (the current female best)
The race is officially in aid of MIND; the UK’s leading mental health charity, to which my entry fee goes.
I am aiming to raise £2000 for ‘Young Minds’, which is the equivalent for children and young adults. They work regionally and nationally to provide information that helps children and young people cope with difficult feelings and offer information and support about mental health.
At least 1 million children (1 in 10) of school age in the UK have a mental health condition - many struggle as the support they need is not yet in place. These include Bullying; Bereavement; Divorce & separation; Depression & suicidal feelings; Anxiety; Autism & Asperger’s Syndrome; Eating Problems; Drugs and alcohol
These are extremely isolating, unhappy and unpleasant scenarios for young people, who don’t necessarily know or understand how to get help. Young Minds is part of a growing alliance of over 30, including Mencap, Diabetes & British Heart Foundation. Together they aim to make Young People’s mental health a priority in Government.
I have a lot of respect for this charity and hold it in high regard and would hugely grateful, if you would be able to sponsor me.
Best Melissa
