I'm off walking the Cleveland Way during August - 110 miles of glorious countryside - as a challenge for the Big Birthday that is fast approaching and to raise some much needed funds for the MoMo Helps Charitable Trust.
Mo Mowlam was a very special person who is remembered with affection by many people, in and out of politics, for her empathy, frankness and irreverence. When she left politics she set up MoMo Helps to provide easy access to small amounts of money that could assist with holidays and repsite care for families of disabled children and to help ex-drug users reintegrate into society.
For the past year I have been involved with the charity which is kept going by a handful of volunteers. We have run out of funds but the requests for help just keep rolling in. I have been touched by what a difference a small amount of money can make and so am polishing up the old hiking boots, striding off over the North Yorkshire Moors and down the coast to Filey. The charity will give back out all that you give - we have no overhead costs.
