"Since attaining the ripe young age of fifty, I have been searching  for a challenge of some description to mark this occasion . As fifty has come far too quickly, I thought, instead of thinking about something, I had better get on and just do it before sixty approached !My main hobby is sailing, however my boat would require substantial funds spent on it to make it seaworthy enough to sail out of the Solent, let alone any further afield .I used to cycle as a hobby some twenty years ago and so my mind started working on a cycling challenge . Surely the Lands End to John O'Groats ride must rank the highest in terms of British rides ? And so it is this that I have set my sights on .I am starting from Lands End on 9th July 2010 and hope to reach John O'Groats between 10 to 14 days later . I will be camping majority of the way and so will be towing a small trailer with my tent, equipment and no doubt some liquid victuals for medicinal reasons !As an ex Round Tabler, I could not contemplate such a challenge without having the added incentive of raising money for a worthy cause . I have known John Hambly of the Samson Centre for some years and have always enjoyed not only his company but hearing how the Samson Centre project has progressed . The  Centre provides an absolutely vital service to multiple scelosis sufferers  in Surrey and is in constant need of funds to maintain its services as well as expand . Please would you sponsor me for what I believe is a most inspiring and worthwhile cause ."
