The Challenge is on!!

On May 9th 2010, a (hopefully!!) Slimmer, fitter, and healthier Mike Cookson will tackle the Quantiles Bracknell Half Marathon.

For those of you that don't know me, as of December 2009 I am some way over the suggested weight for my height (apparently my weight is ok for an 8ft 9in man! so I might just be under tall) therefore I do not take this challenge on lightly.

My aim will be to complete the course, within a reasonable time (under a day would be great, under 4 hours an ideal, under 2 hours an impossibility!!!!). The rigorous training regime has started already (bizarrely with 2 rest days!!!), and the diet is on track. (If you see me snacking feel free to stop me ed: or try to at least!!)

I hope to raise in excess of £500 towards our caravanning clubs (The AAOCC) nominated charity for 2009 / 2010 the Alzheimer’s Society, and welcome your help and support in donating to this special cause.

Alzheimer’s Society

In March 2009 we sadly lost my wife’s mother, Elizabeth Rumbold, to Alzheimer’s.

As with any family bereavement trying to understand and come to terms with the reasons behind the loss are always difficult, but perhaps with Alzheimer’s they are even more challenging due to the nature of the disease, which steals the persons personality and their ability to communicate long before any physical symptoms become apparent.

The Alzheimer’s society is working to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in the , through campaigning and lobbying they strive to influence government policies and raise awareness of the challenges faced by people with dementia and the people who care for them. And through their research programme they work to improve the knowledge they have about dementia and its treatment - and pursuing the ultimate goal of finding a cure.
