At the end of July 2010 we
will set off as part of a ten man team to climb 3
of the tallest mountains in the UK within just 24 hours. We
will be climbing Mount Snowdon in Wales, Scafell Pike in England
and Ben Nevis in Scotland. This will involve approximately 15
hours of walking and climbing to cover around 25 miles, which accounts
to a total of 3,407 metres. This will
be a non-stop challenge with opportunities to rest
being minimal. We will have to navigate difficult terrain and experience
unpredictable weather conditions, which makes the event one of the most
challenging in Europe.
This is all for a great cause; Child-Safe is a
registered international charity
which aims to encourage children and young people to participate in
travel, sport, community groups and specific school programmes. Their
aims
are to provide practical advice, promote the safety, welfare and
pastoral care of children and young people involved in such activities.
This initiative is about empowering young people, improving care and
reducing opportunities of abuse in its widest sense. Child-Safe
promotes good practice, provides support and advice to
parents, organisers, volunteers, schools, a wide range of commercial
organisations and, most importantly, children and young people
themselves. Additionally, they are able to offer organisations support,
advice or guidance by way of consultancy, training, workshops, seminars
or presentations.
