The Cause:

Two years ago Gawain went to Nepal to trek to Everest Base Camp and raised money for World Vision. Whilst on this first expedition in Kathmandu, his dear friends Fran and Michael McGowan showed him around the Disabled New Life Centre (DNC) -
http://www.nepalichildrenstrust.com where he was introduced to the non-profit helpers and kids at the centre. What became immediately apparent was that all the children came from an extremely poor background and required major medical treatment/corrective surgery/physiotherapy. Subsequently Gawain spent some time there, helping the kids with their homework and talking to them about their short experience of life. He found it to be one of the most touching experiences of his life.

Inspired by his previous experience in Nepal, now having convinced Kevin Loo to help bear the burden of this life-long charitable dream, together both Kevin and Gawain have committed to return to Nepal and raise funds for Nepali Children's Trust (NCT). NCT is UK base charity setup to support Disabled New Life Centre (DNC) in Kathmandu. The funds we are looking to raise will all go to directly benefit the standard of living at the centre by providing the kids with the correct diet, education and the medical treatment they require to live a semblance of a normal life that many people take for granted.

Our Venture:

So, the two mountaineering nutters (Kev Loo and Gawain Lee-Son) have decided to do something a little potentially hazardous and crazy. Together we intend to summit the highest trekking peak in Nepal, Mera Peak standing at 6,461m above sea-level (to put this feat into context, the Mount Everest summit is 8,848m, with base camp located at circa. 5,000m).

Come the 10th November, 16 days of  torturous (occasionally life threatening) trekking and climbing await. Our idyllic world of luxury is to be resigned to the far recesses of our minds, firmly exchanged for extreme discomforting hardship as we battle freezing sub zero temperatures, basic living conditions, altitude sickness, potential gale force winds, fatigue, (where tolerable) freezing cold snow baths and indeed each others personalities. Guaranteed there will be blood, blisters and tears!

That said, if you could sponsor us with a few spare pounds here and there, the children at NCT-DNC (and us!) would be most appreciative.

Please remember, not only is your money going to directly help the kids at NCT-DNC, it will also be a strong reminder and motivator to us, when up on that cold / lonely mountain, not to give up hope when chasing this "once in a life time" charitable dream!

Thanking you all in advance for the support!
