On the 5th of July 2010 I will be travelling to Mombasa with 'The friends of The Mombasa Children' charity. One of the aims of the charity is to give support to children and young people in the Mombasa District with their education. Another is to assist in contributing to the life and growth of the schools they support. Thus promoting a stable learning environment, encouraging confidence and love. Through the charity children in Mombasa are able to receive an education (which is not free in Mombasa) in a school built by the charity, receive daily meals and weekly medical care.
The aim of the trip is to help improve the school and the teaching that takes place there. I hope to be able to teach, help with medical care, support the provision of food and with the upkeep of the school itself. Another goal of the trip is to raise the profile of the charity by developing a link between the school I teach in Worcester (Cranham Primary School) and Victiory Primary School in Mombasa. I will meet with the children whose education we sponser and hopefully raise funds to buy much needed text books, pens and provisions for the school. I would also like to raise money to take medical supplies such as bandages, plasters and sanitary provisions.
