We want to ensure that every patient at Addenbrooke's and the Rosie hospitals experiences the highest quality of care available. We raise funds for cutting edge technology, additional specialist staff and extra comforts for patients, over and above what is possible with NHS funding alone.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Here's why your here,

In August 2008, Abigail my 4 year old daughter started showing some very disturbing symptoms.. she wouldn't eat and had a thirst like nothing i had ever seen, as you can imagine, I was very concerned with this. A trip to the Dr's resulted in nothing, they said she was fine, then the bed wetting started, to a point where the mattress was dripping in the morning, this went on for another 6 weeks with a few more trips to the Dr's and still being told nothing was wrong... When it finally got to the point when Abigail was being physically sick even at the sight of food, a hospital appointment demanded and further tests to be carried out.

The first night spend in hospital she was weight and then a fluid depravation test was carried out, over the course of 8 hours she lost 1/8th of her total body weight.. an alarming amount, an MRI scan was scheduled for the next day and the results were devastating. They found a Brain tumor behind her left eye the size of a 10p piece, which due to its location is inoperable. Unfortunately the bad news didn't end there, due to the tumor she had developed a rare for of diabetes. Diabetes insipidus, and this condition was what was affecting her fluid in take and appetite, not with the right medication and care she has and will go on to lead a relatively normal life. 18 months on she is healthy her weight has started to come back and she is a cheeky 6 year old.

It is due to the care understanding and patience of the staff on her ward that me and my partner were able to find the strength to get through the darkest of times, this is why i'am going to throw my self out of a perfectly good plane and fall 15000 ft.... luckily they said i could have a parachute!

At present they are raising money for a portable MRI scanner which not only make life easier for the patents but also free up the already scarce nurses on these specialist wards, enabling them to spend their time on patent care and well being, as patent transport can take up to an hours of their time.

This means so much to me that i aim to do a different event for the charity each year this is the first, so please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you

Neil
