I and a team of as many friends as I can convince will be cycling 100 miles over two days from Reading to the Children's Hospice in Bristol to raise money for Children's Hospice South West. We will be cycling in memory of my beautiful daughter Abbie who passed away in April 2009.

Children's Hospice South West is a truly incredible charity. The idea of a hospice generally makes you think of some sort of institutional building filled with sadness. This couldn't be further from the truth, it is filled with love and laughter.. The hospice provides outstanding respite care to children with life limiting conditions and provides support not only to the parents and children but also the siblings of those children.

Charlton Farm (Children's Hospice in Bristol) became a true life line to my family during some very difficult times. Our daughter developed meningitis when she was 4 weeks old and as a result suffered huge brain damage. We also have a son with a rare genetic condition and as a result he is severely disabled. Abbie spent most of her 20 month life in and out of various hospitals. This would mean that the family was divided up while one of us sat at Abbie's hospital bed and the other would care for our other two children (Isobel Abbie's twin and Ollie). The Hospice provided us with the much needed respite that allowed us to be able to continue to cope during these tough times.

When Abbie passed away again the hospice was truely incredible to my family. Abbie was taken to a special room called Starborn and we were able to grieve while Ollie was cared for by the fantastic care team. I cannot fully explain to you on how many different levels the Hospice has helped us and is continuing to help us and I know that they were key to our survival during these dificult times.

We have met so many other special families at the hospice dealing with losing children and they have all been so touched by the magic of the place and staff that work there.

Please make a donation to this incredible charity it really does make such a difference to special children with precious lives.
