Hello! Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. As some of you may know my first teaching job was at Fulford School in York. Whilst teaching there I had the pleasure to teach a lovely boy - Guy Francis, who sadly was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 17. Along with many of his friends and classmates we did a lot of fundraising to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, including lunchtime car washing, school barbeques, school discos, and culminating in about 20 of us doing a parachute jump! There were several trips to the airfield, picking up Guy en-route, before the wind was eventually suitable for us to launch ourselves out of an aeroplane at 2,500 feet!
Guy and I became friends, and kept in touch when he left school and on to University. Sadly he died at the age of 23, a very brave and uncomplaining person. His parents set up a charity to help fund research into why so many young people are diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer)...Guys Mum and myself have kept in touch, and when she wrote at Christmas to tell me about raising money for the charity in the York Jane Tomlinson 10K, I decided that a year on from having Lucas it was time I did some exercise...so signed up and roped in a few friends.
Training is..erm..sporadic, but we have run in incredible hail and rain, but not a lot of sunshine yet! I keep telling myself that I'm a fair weather runner, and I'll really get going soon!
I would really really appreciate any sponsorship you can give...I'm hoping to raise at least £200. Thank you!
Nicola x
