Fundraising for Transplant Sport UK
Story
Transplant Sports UK organise the UK Transplant Games of sporting events at various locations for anyone who has had a transplant of any kind regardless of age. The very first games were held in Portsmouth in 1978. Last years UK event was in Bath, Somerset.
As a result of my performance in the games, where I won a gold, two silvers and two bronze medals, I was privileged enough to be selected to represent Great Britain in the “World Transplant Games 2011 Sweden” competing in swimming.
The World Transplant Games are held are held every two years in different locations around the world. The first World games were also held in Portsmouth in 1979. This year the 18th WTG are to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden from June 17th to June 24th 2011.
We, as a family, need to raise at least £3,500 from sponsorship and donations to cover TSUK's costs for me to be able to attend the WTG. Any additional funds go to TSUK to further fund there work to raise awareness of the need for organ donation in the UK and worldwide.There are currently 2000 transplants carried out every year in the UK alone with 8000 people waiting for a transplant.
Through organising sports and social events for transplant recipients they can show the benefits of organ donation and prove that you can lead a normal and active life again after transplantation. Transplant Sports UK are not government funded and rely solely on sponsorship. So if you can please donate to this worthy cause please click on the "Donate now" button.
We are also taking part in other events. My swimming club Portsmouth & Northsea are having a sponsored swim at the Mountbatten Centre. Also taking part in a four London bridge sponsored walk and my Dad is taking part in the Blenhiem Palace and London triathlons.
