Story

Thanks for taking the time to read this. My cancer journey started in December 2008, with bowel cancer, until then my biggest fear was contracting cancer.  Amazingly, when it happened, I just switched into 'Let's deal with this' mode and my fear was conquered.

I then had surgery to resect the tumour, chemotherapy and radiotherapy in early 2009.  A non cancer related small bowel obstruction requiring further surgery in December 2009 nearly led to my demise, but the battle continued.

All appeared well until April this year, when problems were noticed on routine scans and blood tests.  More detailed investigations, led to a diagnosis that the cancer had returnrd and metastisised to my pelvic soft tissue and hip bone, for the second time I heard the words I did not want to hear,  "You have Cancer" .

After a short period of feeling devastated,  once again I became resolute to deal with this 'thing'.  Thanks to the amazing support from Family, Friends, Colleagues and Health Professionals [you know who you are], I believe I am doing a pretty good job.

I am now receiving two forms of chemotherapy to manage the tumours, and, thankfully, my previous experiences have left me with more resolve and positivity than I could have hoped for.  I am not pretending it is a walk in the park, it is very difficult and unpleasant, but ultimately only I can control how I cope.

Given the timing and opportunity (thanks to C4s initiative),  I feel that I must do something to help rid the world of this evil disease.  Let us not forget, it is not just the people who unfortunately die, but their loved ones and cancer survivors who receive a life sentence, never knowing when it will come knocking back at their door.

We all need to resolutely 'STAND UP TO CANCER', then one day the chilling words, "You have Cancer", will not be so dreadful and shattering to individuals, and the people who care about them.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

Those without access to a computer can also donate £2, £5 or £10 by text at no charge by texting TQYI66 and the amount they would like to give to 70070 (for example TQYI66 £5).

So please dig deep and donate whatever you can now, and please spread the word, and watch C4 on Friday 19 October 2012.

If you feel that you are unable to give at this time, then just spare a thought!

Thankyou so much for giving me this chance to make a difference

Nigel ;)
