Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Having witnessed the heroic efforts of my wife and sister to complete the Dublin marathon in 2009 I have been coerced into attempting the Edinburgh Marathon on 23 May 2010 in this, the year of my 40th birthday. The fact that I am not known for my long distance running abilities, my previous limits being a 3 mile cross country jog at school about 25 years ago and a 500 yard dash to the pub at closing time means that I am fully aware that this is not likely to be easy or very pleasant. I have however made the first step and bought a fluorescent running jacket so at least I look the part and I am very pleased to have found several other fools (aka friends and family) who are also committing to the marathon and will hopefully help to carry me across the line.Having entered the race the decision as to which charity to fundraise for was not a difficult one:
The Psoriasis Association.
My 4year old daughter, Lucy suffers from a rare and increasingly aggressive form of psoriasis. This manifests itself in the form of itchy, scaly lumps and bumps that form in patches particularly on her scalp and body but also increasingly on her limbs and her face. It is believed that it began about 18 months ago as a result of a throat infection and becomes particularly aggressive when she has a cold or infection of any kind. There is no cure for the condition and treatment is in the form of steroid and moisturing cream twice a day and by light therapy courses all of which she is undergoing. So if my 4 year old can undergo the constant itchiness, possible scarring and constant daily bombardment of treatments to fight this condition, I can make the effort and commit to completing the 26 miles course to raise some money for a charity that promotes awareness, gives advice and support and assists into research into this condition that affects our lives and the lives of many others with psoriasis.
It therefore goes without saying that all donations would be most gratefully received. Thanks Nigel (Please note the other team members mentioned on this page may be raising funds for different charities)
