I am going to cycle all the way from London to Paris in July 2011(oh yes I am!!) and have pledged to raise as much money as possible in aid of The Big Issue Foundation, which provides an alternative to begging for people who have fallen on hard times but who want to help themselves out of homelessness. They provide vital services from dentists and doctors as well as providing courses to help people get back into work and off the streets.
I am particularly minded to help this organisation because it doesn't just provide a hand out to homeless people who then spend it on drugs and booze, it gives a helping hand to those who want to help themselves back into society. We are all but a short journey to being on the streets, especially in todays economic climate and I am sure that you agree with me that everyone deserves a second chance.
I am under no illusion as to how hard this bike ride is going to be, but I am determined to get myself to the finish in Paris no matter how uncomfortable. I am in the fortunate position of having a very nice roof over my head at night and, although I don't have spare cash to just give away I can give my time and effort to hopefully help people who are not as fortunate as me.
