On the 6th of December I am taking part in the Liverpool Santa Dash 09. It is a 5k run and I am doing it to raise money for The Childrens Heart Surgery Fund. This charity is special to me as my nephew was born with several heart conditions which are very serious. Cooper's heart conditions are very complex and when I list them I am sure you will be able to see. Cooper has Hypoplastic Left Side, Mitral Artresia, Transposition of the Great Arteries, Double Outlet Right Ventricle, Pulmonary Artery Banding and Atrial Septectomy He is only 1 years old and has already had 2 major heart operations and still has at least 2 more to go before he reaches the age of 10.
Without the Childrens Heart Surgery Fund, with there expertise in surgery and there care, there would be no-one there to support and look after Cooper, his Mum Katie, his Dad Dan and his new baby brother Harley.
Any amount that you can donate will be gratefully recieved. It would not only mean a lot to Cooper and our family, but to all those other families out there who have children with heart conditions.
This really is a great Charity which deserves every penny that it gets!
The Children's Heart Surgery Fund is a registered charity based at the Yorkshire Heart Centre in Leeds General Infirmary. This centre covers Yorkshire, Humberside and the North Midlands.
The CHSF funds valuable equipment, resources and research for the treatment of children with heart defects and provides a happy and relaxed atmosphere within the hospital for both the children and their families.
Every year 10,000 children pass through our paediatric heart unit at the LGI and approximately 330 of these undergo open heart surgery. Over 40% will need long term care.
