The Plot

The Outdoor Fitness Company is the North East's premier bootcamp organisation. For over ten years, ODFC have been challenging client's fitness levels, pushing the barriers of pain, and turning fair-weather joggers into hardened athletes. The inaugural ODFC bikeathon is their newest, and toughest challenge: On 24th September 2011, teams are invited to compete against each other in a 24 -hour bicycle endurance race. Using static exercise bikes at ODFC's gym, The Unit in Newcastle's City Centre, teams are allowed to rotate members as frequently or infrequently as they wish in order to achieve the greatest distance over the time scale. This is a race like no other in the North East, and represents a true test of courage, determination, and of course, stamina.

The rules:

 - Teams must register directly with ODFC by emailing info@getfitoutside.co.uk

 - The event will take place at 10:00am Saturday 24th September 2011 and run until Sunday 10:00am 25th September 2011.

 - The event will take place at The Unit Gym, Arch 4 King Edward's Bridge, Newcastle Upon-Tyne, NE1 3TQ.

 - There is no maximum or minimum amount of team members

 - Participants must cycle for a minimum of 1 hour out of 24

 - Participants may cycle in sessions of 30 or 60 minutes.

 - The bike must be moving at all times. Failing to do so will result in disqualification.

 - Team team entry is £50. All proceeds of the event will go directly to the United Movement to End Child Soldiering. www.endchildsoldiering.org (see below)

 - The team who achieves the greatest combined distance in a 24 hour period will be crowned the winner.

Are you tough enough?

Who are UMECS?

The United Movement to End Child Soldiering is a Ugandan charity tasked with supporting education for children and youth affected by conflict throughout Northern Uganda.  Together with school-based peace education and counselling and guidance programs, UMECS helps to build a culture of peace to prevent new wars. ODFC instructor Jonathan Okwe-Pearson is a UMECS board member, and has seen first hand the incredible effect that donations from events such as this, has on the lives of children whose lives have been plagued by war and misery. All donations, large and small, are welcome (don't forget to add gift aid!)

The Swinfen Charitable Trust is UMECS U.K's charity partner.
