My story

Hi, I'm Ollie (Donald Oliver) a 75 year old pensioner.

Thank you for visiting my important fund-raising page.

I am running in the Brighton Marathon on Sunday 18th April in support of St Dunstan’s.

My ambition is to break two records, one is to smash the Marathon record for the over 75s. And the other being most important of all, to raise £6,253 which is more than I raised for charities previously.

My adopted charity is St Dunstans.  I have been associated with them since 1963 to this day 47 years later.  I first ran for the Fleet Air Arm Field Gun Crew.  After returning from the Royal Tournament a group of us looked after 50 or more of the St Dunstaners for a week's holiday.  Those ex service men blinded and maimed in WW2, Korea, Kosovo, Falklands, Northern Ireland, Iraq and Afghanistan and other areas of conflict.  The activities for that week included swimming, cycling, road running, sailing, walking races, archery, decathlon, golf and other pass times. It was a very strenuous week, even for the ex field gunners, some of these old sea dogs are still helping and guiding them in various activities.

St Dunstans afford the blind ex-servicemen and women specialist advice, rehabilitation, nursing care, training and equipment.  They provide lifelong support to their members, promoting and enabling them to maintain their dignity, regain independence, meet new challenges and achieve a better quality and new lease of life.  Any amount you can sponsor/donate will go a long way in making a huge difference to their lives.  So, please dig deep into your pockets and wallets and donate to this worthy cause and help me reach my fund-raising target.” After all it is JUST GIVING.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails.  Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.  It is the most efficient way to donate – which means I raise more money for St Dunstans whilst cutting the costs for the charity.

WISH ME LUCK

Ollie
