Story
Well yesterday 22nd September, we did it in glorious weather! We completed the Team Olympic Triathlon in the Virgin London Triathlon in Londons Docklands.
Poor Andy had blood pressure and was advised to pull out a week before and was gutted, he trained so hard but after medical advice we all agreed it was better he pulled out. Hamish James jumped in to help us by completing the swim.
We finished 411th out of 500'ish and 33rd in our age category - Hamish did the 1500m swim in 38 mins, I did my 40k cycle in 1hr 50mins and Amarjit do the 10k run in 56 mins.
All amazing efforts and we are incredibly proud of doing this and incredibly grateful for your amazing sponsorship -
THANKYOU SO MUCH!
If you want to you can still donate of course!
Below you can read our reasons for taking part in the London Triathlon, we are supporting The Passage (a charity near our Victoria office for the homeless of Victoria) as well as Great Ormond Street Hospital

Michael's Story
I’m Michael, and if you look at our mug shot I am the rose between the two thorns in this Odd Treble! I co-founded Thomsons with Chris Bruce and I am CEO and love my job and benefits, in particular the ever changing world of pensions. Thomsons People is what makes us great and it is our people that get me bouncing out of bed each morning. I have played National League rugby for most of the last 25 years but as my knees give way under my too large girth it is time to grasp the nettle and get on my bike, get fit, lose lots of weight and support our chosen charities The Passage and Great Ormond Street Hospital. I have not cycled in anger for about 15 years but I have bought a new hybrid bike and I am going for it. I am going for 90 minutes for my 40k leg. We are already bonding as a trio of oddballs and I can feel the determination of the team to deliver what we are promising here. You may be pleased to know that I will not be clad in pink lycra….although you never know what might happen on the day!
Amarjit's Story
I’m Amarjit (the hairy one of the Odd Treble), I look after the delivery of the Darwin application, that involves working with the development and product teams to ensure we plan our monthly releases and longer term goals and put in place the appropriate schedule to deliver a world class product that keeps our clients happy. This is a fantastic company to work for with a great work and fun ethos which is why I’m still here having joined Thomsons 7 years ago ! In addition to this we love to give something back to the community and that’s why this year like so many of us at Thomsons, I will be doing the London Triathlon as part of a team to raise money for two great charities. I’m going to be doing the 10K run which will be a slight challenge as I’ve put on about a stone over the last year and I’m also recovering from a knee injury. My personal goal will be to achieve a time of between 50 -55 minutes.
Andy's Story
I’m Andy, (the ugly one of the Odd Treble) and I’m responsible for the consulting for our clients on their corporate PMI schemes as well as occupational health and wellness. I love working for Thomsons, it is so different to other companies I have worked for in so many ways. I’m doing the swimming leg. I am doing this for a few reasons, along with being caught up in all the Thomsons enthusiasm for the event and having the boss as part of my team being huge motivation! I also am motivated by personal goals regarding health. Having recently been diagnosed with diabetes and seeing first hand the damage it can do to someone, I’m determined to get fit and keep fit to control the condition. Having been a good swimmer I thought it would be a piece of cake, but it was after one length of my first training session that I suddenly realised it was 34 years since I was a good swimmer! I will be ready and I’m aiming for 30 minutes for the 1,600m swim. I’m big supporter of the 2 charities and particularly the homeless charity The Passage who do fantastic work and who need all the help they can get.
