Thank you for taking time to visit my JustGiving page.
This summer I will be spending about three weeks in Mae Sot on the Thailand-Burma border, volunteering in local migrant schools teaching English. Along with a group of other Durham University students I will be working with the charity Baan Romjit which is a British based charity with exceptional links in Thailand which was set up after the 2004 Tsunami for the provision of humanitarian relief. We will also be liaising with the International Red Cross and the UNHCR and many smaller NGOs. Whilst staying in Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand, we will also be visiting an Elephant sanctuary, and work ‘hands on’ feeding and swimming with the elephants, something which is an opportunity of a lifetime!
I have always had a real passion for community work, especially in other countries. I find that volunteering abroad is a great way to get to see another part of the word as it allows you to completely sample that country’s culture and way of life, something which you cannot experience when just travelling through. It has also been 2 years since my World Challenge expedition to , and I'm starting to get itchy feet!
