Story

Thank you for viewing our "For One Night Only" JustGiving page and raising awareness of combat stress.

Please take a moment to view the short film (within the Gallery of this page).

For One Night Only on December 19th - December 20th, we will be sleeping rough outside Robinson's Budgens, Kimbolton (thank you Charles), exposed to the elements with nothing more than warm clothing, a sleeping bag and a cardboard box to protect us from the elements.  WHY? Because we want to raise money and awareness of homelessness amongst our veterans and the scars of combat that we can not see including PTSD, anxiety and depression.

Ex-service personnel can find it hard to make the transition to civilian life and are vulnerable to social exclusion and homelessness, both of which are risk factors for mental health.  It is estimated that 12% of homeless people are Veterans.

The charity "Combat Stress" is the leading Veteran's mental health charity in the UK providing treatment for ex-service personnel of any age suffering with mental ill-health.  Support is also offered for families and carers of veterans.

Just One Veteran's Story:

Donald enlisted with the Scots Guards at the age of 20. He served in Kenya, followed by two tours of Northern Ireland. However, it was his involvement in the Falklands War that would have a devastating impact on his life for the next 30 years. The severe impact of PTSD as a consequence of his time spent in the Falkland Islands means that Donald does lock himself away and feels that when he is out he is still on patrol, constantly scanning for danger. Combat Stress continue to work with Donald to build his confidence.

‘Had it not been been for the support that Combat Stress has delivered through its services...I wouldn't be here today".
