Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page in aid of Vision Aid Overseas.

The intrepid Optician Triathlon Team are once again supporting the work of Vision Aid Overseas in 2010, and this year they are taking their levels of endurance and stamina to a new international level by participating in the Triathlon Alpe d’Huez on 28 July. This event, which takes place in the beautiful and scenic surrounds of the French Alps, is 139.1 km long and the team will endure a 2.2km swim, a 115km cycle (taking in three gruelling mountain ascents – Col de l’Alpe du Grand Seree, Col d’Ornon and finally the spectacular Alpe d’Huez) and then a 21.9km run. It is not an event for the feint hearted and the Triathlon Team will have to prepare for many months in advance to be ready for the challenge.

This is the third year running that the Triathlon Team have supported the work of Vision Aid Overseas, and team Captain (and editor of Optician), Chris Bennett is delighted to be supporting their work. “These things are not easy!” said Chris. “They take a lot of organisation, preparation and focus to be a part of. We are extremely proud that we can use this event to raise funds for Vision Aid Overseas who do vital work to transform access to eyecare services in developing countries. It would be fantastic if our friends, family and colleagues from the UK optical industry could make a small donation to support the team and help Vision Aid Overseas to do even more of its fantastic work.”

Supporters can keep up to date with the team’s preparation and progress by reading the Optician Triathlon Team Blog and regular updates and news will be featured in Optician over the next few months. We hope all our supporters will enjoy following progress.
