My story

Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please sponsor my fundraising effort online. This page is temporary and will stop accepting donations on Xmas Day! Any donations would be greatly appreciated. As I'm a life-long avid fan of Celtic FC, l will be donating all proceeds to the Jimmy Johnstone MND Personal Tribute Fund. I am determined to help improve the lives of people diagnosed with cruel Motor Neurone Disease and do all I possibly can to aid Jimmy in his on-going courageous battle with this terrible debilitating illness.

Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive, fatal disease of the nervous system. It attacks the nerve cells (motor neurones) that send signals from the brain to the muscles. As these motor neurones gradually die, the muscles stop working. Every day, more damage is done and the body slowly deteriorates. MND can destroy the ability to walk, talk, dress or even swallow. People with MND usually live their lives totally dependent on others for their most basic needs. The mind and senses are rarely affected though. People with MND know exactly what is happening to their bodies. They still feel pain like the cramping of muscles that can't be moved. They also are fully aware there is nothing they can do to stop it.

MND can affect any adult at any age! Every day 3 people in the UK die as a result of MND and another 3 are diagnosed with it! In the UK alone, some 5,000 people are living with the devastating disease at any one time. Though the rate of progression varies greatly, life expectancy after the first onset of symptoms is just between 2-5 years! There is no specific test for MND, so by the time of diagnosis the disease is often already well advanced. The cause is unfortunately still unknown and there is currently no cure. To date, the only outcome for people with Motor Neurone Disease is certain death!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Motor Neurone Disease Association will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. You will be entered into a draw with various great Celtic-related prizes on offer! The more you pledge the greater chance you have of being a lucky winner! The Draw will take place shortly after this site closes. The lucky winners will be drawn at random in front of several witnesses to verify it was carried out fair and all monies accounted for! At present, the prizes up for grabs include 2 limited edition framed 14 x 11 prints, one of which is of japanese celtic midfield star shunsuke nakamura (see www.artbhoy.co.uk). There is also a signed copy of the stilian petrov autobiography, celtic family stadium tour pass and a seat from the old celtic jungle. There may be additional great prizes added to this list so make sure you don't miss out.

A donation of any amount can make a real difference! For example, a contribution of £1 can fund the Charity Helpline for four minutes and £120 can provide a full night's respite care. Crucial Research into the causes of / potential treatments for MND always need extra financial support. The MND Association recieves very little government funding and is dependent on voluntary donations of both time and money. Please donate now what you can afford! There is only a few days remaining to show your support and pay tribute to jinky. Although it appears I have almost reached my overall target there are running expenses of over £75 yet to be deducted from the total amount. The money donated will help many people throughout the entire UK suffering with awful MND. If you have any enquiries whatsover just email me anytime at peterkerins@msn.com. Please provide me with your email address or some other means of getting in contact in case you are one of the people lucky enough to win a prize! I will keep this sponsorship website updated on a regular basis so feel free to check out the page as often as you like to see how much cash has been raised. Cheers. Hail Hail, Peter
