Dad, Kate and I are raising money for 'The Friends of the Nightingale Macmillan Unit' at Derby Royal Hospital. Mum received very high quality care in this Unit from fantastic medical staff. It also provides a very calming and comforting environment for patients and their families.
The Nightingale Macmillan Unit provides integrated specialist pallative care for patients with cancer. It comprises 14 en-suite single rooms and two three-bed bays. All patients have their own TV. Facilities are provided for carers to stay overnight and the unit also offers respite for carers in the home. All nursing staff are specially trained, including eight full and part-time specialist Macmillan Nurses. The basic costs of the unit are met by the NHS but 'Friends of the Nightingale Macmillan Unit' raise funds to provide additional facilities. Recent additions to the unit have included medical equipment such as electric beds as well as facilities to improve the environment, namely refurbishment of a Complementary Therapy Room and a patio garden.
