Update: 07/10/2009 - Thanks so much to all the sponsors - the last minute rally has pushed us to the £1,000 mark! We only have 4 more days of training before the start line on Sunday (11/10/09). So there is a last minute chance to donate!
There is a food festival at the end of the race - so please come down and join us from 12pm onwards.
Not content with running for the love of it, (which obviously is an oxymoron: love does not equal running) Pat & I have decided to join efforts to run for a cause.
And who better than the mighty Asian Elephant? But it’s not just about the elephant (although that is good enough a reason). It’s about protecting their environment. It’s about saving those forests. And that’s what Elephant Family is about – save the elephant’s environment, and you save the planet (not to mention those cool orang-utans in the forest).
Elephant Family are small. They are a lean, mean charity machine. Few employees mean more money direct to the projects they support. Pat & I met with the team and they are a determined and passionate bunch, working tirelessly in to make gains for the elephant. Don’t take my word for it – look them up here: http://www.elephantfamily.org/
Now Pat & I are running the Royal Parks Half marathon – that’s 13.1miles (21kms for us Aussies which sounds way further). Then we are running the full marathon from Nice to in November. That’s a lot of running – its got to be worth something! Our longest race to date is the City 2 Surf (14kms) so we have a big challenge ahead.
So donate to our cause. Donate because you like elephants, donate because a marathon is a really long way, donate because you like Pat & me (or Pat or me), donate to buy immunity from future soap box moments, or donate because you have too much money and nothing to do with it.
Update: Thanks for the support so far ! Its very much appreciated.
