In October 2010, Patrick and I spent 2 weeks in Rwanda with a charity called Rwanda Aid. What was fantastic to see was that money that was being raised was directly channelled to help people in one of the poorest areas of the country with projects that helped families to become more self-sufficient and others to provide for the most needy. Ngwino Nawe was the first project that we visited, and it brought many tears to our eyes. The village looked after children with disabilities yet when we went in all of the children had the most amazing smiles for us. The work that the staff were doing with the children wa truly inspirational - they taught them signing so the deaf could communicate, provided music therapy to enable the children to express themselves as well as basic education and craft skills. The local children could be seen looking over the walls of the centre because they wanted to join in!
Until recently, funding for the centre came from a Trust set up by a Dutch lady however she died last year and no further money has been forthcoming from the new trustees. We are looking to raise the money to help keep this centre running. A contribution of any size can make such a difference to the lives of these children.
Kind regards
Heather (& Patrick)
