Mission Impossible?
I have been roped in to join a small party climbing Mont Blanc in mid-July. There are numerous reasons why this is probably not a Good Idea. Here are just a few:
- Mont Blanc is very big, very steep, and quite slippery.
- I used to take the lift to go to the first floor.
- In mountaineering terms, I am starting from a low base - literally and metaphorically.
- I feel slightly nervous up a step-ladder.
- The insurance covers "body repatriation" : one person dies every day in summer on Mont Blanc.
But there is one good reason...
I aim to attain the moral high ground by winning an avalanche of support for Grove House, a hospice in my home town, St Albans, which offers support for those suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and which is dependant on charitable donations for continuing its amazing work. For more information go to www.grove-house.org.uk.
I am giving it my best shot: having taken virtually no physical exercise for 35 years, I am now running before work several times a week, hiking long distances with a heavy pack every Saturday and cycling 50+ miles every Sunday.
You are welcome to join me, but all I ask of you is that you support my endeavours by giving generously to a very worthy cause.
Many thanks in anticipation.
