After having done no physical exercise for years apart from running for the bus - I have started to go to the gym. I was shamed by my 67 year old father who was fitter than me!
It is going rather well and I can now run quite far which has surprised everyone - most of all me. As a result I have decided to go a bit further and enter the Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10km Run.
As some of your may know, I am the Conservative candidate at the next General Election for the marginal seat of Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.
Therefore, when doing this run, I want to give something back to the town and Cleveland. I have decided to try and raise money for the Royal British Legion (Middlesbrough branch).
The Legion is a UK charity that provides financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving our country in the armed forces. For most of us, the Legion is in our thoughts during the Poppy Appeal and as the nation's custodian of Remembrance.
We should never forget the sacrifices of those who have served our country in wars and conflicts past, and those of course who are still serving in Afghanistan and elsewhere.
I am positive the money you give will make a real difference to the Legion's activities in Middlesbrough.
Thank you for your support
