Hi everyone a great big thank you for being so generous. After less than 48 hours we have passed £2500. Isobel will be updating her donations later.

Parkinson's Awareness Week - by Paul Dowling

I was told 3 years ago that I had Parkinson's - bit of a shock as no test or long wait for the results in the post. Just me in room at Haywards Heath Hospital on a late appointment to find out why I was losing the ability to talk and movement in the left leg.
" Its PD" the consultant said "everything else is ruled out". There are no tests (yet) just a... guess when you get to the bottom of the form - if there are ticks in certain boxes a formula similar to below is used to confirm the result

eg cats are black, this animal is black, therefore its a cat

"Looking on the bright side it is not a brain tumour" he added," but I will book you into a scan asap incase it was induced with a stroke"...........Great news, thought.

So with that "consultation" over, I spent a long night on the internet finding what PD is.....

Keep moving.... the most import thing in your life now..... the experts say.

I have taken up running each day and never been as fit. But on Parkinson's Awareness Week the running will be undertaken by my niece - Isobel, who is part of the PD Team in the Brighton Marathon on 15 April.

Her aim is to raise over £3000, so far she is touching £2000, with a gift from Judi Dench of £500, who is busy on the James Bond set siging up the cast!

If you would like to sponsor Isobel, just contact me - every penny counts, so no donation towards her run is too small.

One day - hopefully in the not too distant future the cure will be found. Quite simply brain cells that make the body move have died off and not been replaced, and like an old 78 turntable the body will slow down to a halt. Medicine at the moment slows the decline..... Maybe Isobel's run will help to find out why it all starts in the first place.

Keep moving -

all the best
