Scotland Coast to Coast · 15 August 2009

The Menzies Charitable Trust administers and maintains Castle Menzies, its Gardens and the Old Kirk of Weem, in Perthshire, Scotland. Castle Menzies is a spectacular sixteenth century castle, hereditary seat of the Chiefs of Clan Menzies for over 400 years. It is open to visitors.

Story

Dear everyone,

I am volunteering to cycle from one side of Scotland to the other on a huge coast to coast challenge! On the 15 August, after a quick dip of the front wheel of my bike in the Atlantic Ocean on the West Coast of Scotland, I shall start the pedals of fire in motion! The aim is to repeat this symbolic ritual 5 days later in Montrose in the North Sea. This trip is over 300kms and covers some of the most challenging mountain ranges in the UK.

The reason for doing this is to raise money for a Charity which I have been close to for a long time. The Menzies Charitable Trust is trying to regenerate the ancient 18th Century Walled Garden which forms part of Menzies Castle in Perthshire, Scotland. If I am able to raise funds to help repair this ancient and most beautiful Garden, we will be one step closer to opening the Gardens to the public and bringing back to life what was once described as one of Scotland's most beautiful Walled Gardens.

A detailed development plan has already been agreed, and these works are desperately needed to help realise a long ambition of Clan Menzies. Any donations are gratefully received and will go entirely towards to the reinstatement of the ancient perimeter walls, grand central staircase and iron gate works.
