Cheers folks for taking the time to at least look at this.
This summer, due to a drunken conversation somehow mutating into an
actual plan, Helen and I will be cycling to Wales from good old Norwich. Many of you may
be surprised to hear this given my general aversion to any form of
exercise that does not involve shopping or walking to the chip shop. Some of you may have also heard me complain about my lung capacity
being at a racial disadvantage (for those who don't know about this,
please contact me for a more in depth whinge). Also, Helen (along with
95% of the world) is probably fitter than me. So please bear this in
mind and try to correlate amazement with the amount you'd like to sponsor.
But where would your money be going? An extremely worthwhile cause! I know this as I have been lucky enough to see how some of the money is spent through some volunteering I have done in the past for one of the services housed in TOYNBEE HALL.
Toynbee Hall can be found a short walk away from Liverpool Street
station and houses many services that respond to social need in the
East End. Tower Hamlets is one of the most deprived areas in the
country and the work at Toynbee aims mainly to tackle the surrounding
poverty, both financial and the lack of opportunity.
- * They work with young people both in and out of school to raise confidence and aspirations and foster responsible citizenship.
- * They support adults experiencing financial exclusion, debt and those in need of legal advice and link together other organisations that do this across the country.
- * They support the local community, especially marginalized groups, to take up entitlements to services and understand their rights through access to information and awareness raising campaigns
This short paragraph does not come close to covering the breadth of fantastic services offered. All this support can't be cheap. Which is why you guys can help make Toynbee Hall's work go further. If you want to learn more about the charity, check out their website at http://www.toynbeehall.org.uk
