My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Pestalozzi Running Club's JustGiving page.

This year thirteen Pestalozzi Students are taking on the challenge of running the Hastings Half Marathon. This is a wonderful opportunity for the students to take part in a prestigious race.

They are already training hard and hope not only to complete the race in good time, but also to raise some money for Pestalozzi as they go.

"Eliot Mujaji, an electrician by profession, lost an arm in an electrical accident and was thus rendered disabled. Though most probably taken aback by this piece of misfortune for a while, he did not throw in the towel and think all was finished. The undeterable man went on to pursue athletics and has since 'done justice'--as his surname suggests-- on the 100m track in the handicapped section internationally, representing his beloved country; Zimbabwe.

Whenever I think of this Zimbabwean icon who defied social constraints and went on to prove that there is always a 'plan b', I am greatly motivated to stretch myself beyond my supposed limits. Though the I.B is a very demanding course, I have felt it worth my time to prepare for and participate in the Hastings Half Marathon. Reasons that have driven me to take this stance range from personal to international ideals. As a young person I find it essential to constantly exercise my body so as to remain fit physically and psychologically. Since I have previously mentioned the rigorousness of the I.B Diploma the physical activity involved in running seems to me, a good way of relieving student stress. However the reason that is paramount, if not pivotal , importance to me has been the need to open more of the world's eyes to us as Pestalozzi and our work. This is mainly because Pestalozzi has, over the years, provided otherwise disadvantaged children--of whom I am not an exception--- with the encouraging hope of a better future. The impact of such a venture has not only benefited us the students but our individual countries too, as scholars take back valuable knowledge to their countries. The world as a whole is also reaping the rewards  as international understanding is being encouraged.

Having such motivation firing up my engine, I will be running the Half Marathon, head held high and representing Pestalozzi--the factory of tomorrow's global leaders."

Pestalozzi International Village Trust

Pestalozzi International Village Trust

Charity Registration No. 1098422

Through education, Pestalozzi International Village Trust offers a long term solution towards improving conditions in the developing world. We educate exceptional young people aged 16-19 from developing countries (currently Zimbabwe, India, Nepal, Zambia and Tibet) who could not otherwise continue their studies due to extreme poverty and factors such as civil and political conflict. We bring them together to our international community in the UK for a fully funded two year programme, enabling them to go on to contribute to development in the areas that need it most, through for example medicine, economics, engineering and politics. We rely on donations to continue our work. Without your support we could not change the futures of these remarkable young people, and ultimately the futures of their home communities. Thank you.
