I am riding from the Police Memorial in London to the National  Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire to raise money for UK Cops.

COPS is a UK registered charity dedicated to helping the families of police officers who have lost their lives on duty, rebuild their lives.

It aims to ensure that survivors have all the help they need to cope with such a tragedy, and that they remain part of the police family.

Sadly recent events in London and Manchester have resulted in the death of one officer and the serious injury of others. It also highlights the incredible bravery of so many police officers in running into scenes of danger rather than away like the rest of us.

For every officer killed in the line of duty, there are families left behind, whether spouses, children, parents or siblings. COPS is helping those survivors rebuild their shattered lives.

This year, I have the honour to be riding in memory of PC Phillip Walters an officer who was murdered in 1995 whilst attending a domestic violence incident near to where I now live in Ilford. PC Walters was only 28 years of age and had been in the Met for under 2 years when he was murdered. Sadly last summer, the memorial stone in the street he was murdered in was destroyed by vanadal(s) for no apparent reason.  https://goo.gl/HBQsAV

It is easy to ignore appeals for fund raising, However, for the cost of a pint of beer ( or more), you can make a huge difference to the work done by COPS in helping the bereaved families of people killed helping to keep us all safe.
