9 September 2009

Made it round! Slightly inclement weather conditions were experienced and we got a bit damp but trotted back to Horton-in-Ribblesdale with the the sun on our backs. Will put some photies up (providing the camera hasn't drowned) in due course - used a camera with film in which needs developing.

Thank-you for the sponsorship. It means a great deal to myself and Mary that people have been so generous. Above all it means that the Peter Congdon ward and future tots who stay there have a better chance of making in out in good shape. It will be these babies and their families who will ultimately benefit from your kind donations. Thanks again.

Edie is now out of hospital (as of the 28th August) and appears to be doing well at home. She's scoffing most of her milk down and otherwise sleeping, pooing and peeing... Wicked!

You may or may not know that Mary and I have a daughter (Edie). You may or may not have known Mary was pregnant with twins.

On 13th July following a routine clinic appointment Mary had to have an emergency caesarian section due to complications (twin to twin transfusion syndrome). As a result we had two identical girls born at 30 weeks. Somewhat tragically one of our girls - Lily died shortly after she was born.

Our other daughter (Edie) has spent (up to press) 2 weeks on the Peter Congdon Ward in Leeds General Infirmary.

In this time she has run a sometimes stormy course. She has had transfusions of blood, platelets and albumin. She has needed medications to support circulation, ventilators to help with breathing, incubators, scans, x-rays, numerous different and costly monitoring equipment.

It is this costly equipment that has helped our daughter to survive so far. An incubator costs an eye watering 15k, don't ask how much a ventilator costs (23k). Edie has needed both of these to live and numerous other bits of kit.

As such I'm doing the Yorkshire Three Peaks on September 5th which consists of a painful:

- 24 miles of walking

- >1600m of climbing [ascending Penyghent (694m), Whernside (736m) and Ingleborough (723m)]

- in one day.
