Care to join me for some ‘gentle’ exercise?
My name is Peter Sharp and I live in Penrith. My day job is Minister in the United Reformed Church. In my spare time I do voluntary work for Farm Crisis Network. I also like to cycle and walk in the beautiful countryside around where I live in the Lake District.
On Saturday 30 July 2011 I am planning to do some ‘gentle’ exercise to raise money for Farm Crisis Network (FCN). This involves cycling from Penrith to Ullswater through Glenridding and Patterdale continuing over Kirkstone Pass and on to Windermere. I then turn and head north to Ambleside, back over the Kirkstone Pass to Glenridding where I will leave my bicycle and set out, on foot, along Striding Edge to the summit of Helvellyn. I will then walk back down to Glenridding, collect my bike and cycle back to Penrith.
The journey comprises about 50 miles of cycling through some pretty steep country and then a walk of around seven miles up and down one of the highest peaks in the Lake District. Given decent weather, it should all make for a pleasant day out.
If you don’t fancy doing the trip yourself, you might like to sponsor me?
All sponsorship monies will go towards helping FCN to provide practical and pastoral support to farmers and to the members of their family at times of difficulty and distress. Upland farming is a hard and lonely lifestyle which offers little in the way of financial return yet our farmers stick to their way of life conserving the land and producing the food which we need. When the problems become overwhelming many turn to FCN whose volunteers provide practical help and guidance and who will walk with the farmer until the difficulties are resolved and life gets back to normal.
Farm Crisis Network is a registered charity with around 300 volunteers working across England and Wales. I am undertaking this journey to raise the funds which will ensure that I and my fellow volunteers can continue to provide support to farmers and their families when and where it is needed.
Your sponsorship – big or small – will help this wonderful organisation to continue its much-needed work within the farming community. Please give what you can – it will all be put to good use!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to FCN and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and donate now.
Many thanks
Peter
