Welcome to my JustGiving Page,  Petra Helm for British Red Cross.
About my Giving Hour

I am lucky enough to have won a place on the fourth plinth One and Other project in Trafalgar Square.
2,400 people each have one hour for 100 days, to do as they choose on the plinth.
During my hour I would like to raise awareness of 10 great charities I support. The aim is to raise £100 each,
so £1000 in total! Please follow links at the bottom of this page for more information.

Why British Red Cross?
Many organisations are on the frontline of need either through man made or environmental circumstance,
these people get through barriers and boundaries to help fellow humans.
People all around the World volunteer, to care for one and other, with the British Red Cross.

I think their courage shows us, however far removed we are by physical barriers, our Humanity binds us together.

About the charity
The British Red Cross is a volunteer-led humanitarian organisation that helps people in crisis,
 whoever and wherever they are.
In the UK their work focuses in four areas: emergency response, first aid training, health and social care,
refugees and other vulnerable migrants.

The Red Cross Movement responds to natural disasters, conflicts and individual emergencies.

It is not a political or religious organisation, so offers unconditional help to all people in need.  Often working in countries other organisations cannot or will not work, they visit prisoners of war on both sides, help conflict victims and reunite separated families. Red Cross can only do this life-saving work if they are understood to be a completely neutral, independent organisation.
National Societies, such as the British Red Cross, support this work by delivering family messages, and helping to provide medical aid and relief supplies when needed. They also have a special role as voluntary aid societies,
auxiliary to the medical services of their country's armed forces.
There are seven fundamental principles The Red Cross Organisations adhere to:
Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, Universality.
