Welcome to my JustGiving Page,  Petra Helm for Oxfam.

I am lucky enough to have won a place on the fourth plinth  One and Other project in Trafalgar Square.
2,400 people each have one hour for 100 days, to do as they choose on the plinth.
During my hour I would like to raise awareness of 10 great charities I support.
The aim is to raise £100 each, so £1000 in total! Please follow links at the bottom of this
page for more information.

Why Oxfam?

Oxfam is one of those organisations you always see in the thick of it.
If there is a flood, famine or war causing thousands of displaced people to wander with families, hoping for help at the next town, often Oxfam is there helping people on the ground.  Practical and courageous, they improve the lives
of millions of people every year.

About Oxfam.
Oxfam works improving many areas such as: Campaigning for change here,
emergency response here  and development work here.

Oxfam specialise in a number of areas when responding to emergencies:  water and sanitation, health promotion, food security and nutrition, protection, disaster risk reduction.

From their website.
Oxfam. What springs to mind? Charity shops and second-hand clothes? They’re part of the picture. But think bigger. Much bigger.
Issues we work on: climate change, world food crisis, conflict and natural disasters, health, education,
debt and aid, gender equality, the right to be heard, trade, private sector.

Why fight poverty?

It’s a basic question, but a good one. Why does Oxfam bother? Why put so much energy into saving lives, campaigning for change, and developing projects to give people more control over their future?
The answer is basic too. Belief – belief that in a wealthy world poverty is unjustifiable, and can be prevented. Belief that injustice must be challenged. And belief that with the right help, poor people themselves can change their lives for the better, for good.

I would like to thank Oxfam for meeting challenges head on and making life better for people around the world.
