Please read my story

I am raising money for Prospect Hospice and Marie Curie in memory of my mum. Both charities provided so much support to her during the latter stages of her illness. Prospect Hospice in Swindon gave her the chance to talk to others in similar situations, to share her problems and also enjoy some of her hobbies. At the very end it gave her somewhere to have a complete rest and have the individual care and support she needed.

As she was such an independent person though, she decided she wanted to be at home with friends close by and in the comfort of her own home. Marie Curie nurses were able to help and came most nights to either sit and support her through the nights or just chat or listen. This charity is also important to me as my mother-in-law is sadly suffering from motor neurons disease and has recently started having Marie Curie nurses coming to help during the night as well.

Sadly my mum died back in May 2009 after suffering for over 7 years with a form of incurable cancer called mylo-phybrosis. Over the years we became very close and I was devistated when she died. I felt a massive part of me had gone and left a huge hole. One way I felt I could try to fill this was by doing something to help those who made her life as comfortable as possible at the end. To try to raise money and commemorate her life I am going to walk the Macmillan Way, 290 miles in 2 weeks, from Boston in Licolnshire to Abbotsbury in Dorset. The end point of this journey is of particular significance to me as it was here that our family spent our holidays every year for over 20 years.

I would be so grateful if you would sponsor me on my walk and help raise money to help both charities support people like mum. I will be starting in Boston on March 6th 2010 and anyone who fancies joining me on a part of the walk are very welcome.
